Millions into Yoga and Living a Connected Life
Feb 07, 2017
Anyone reading this blog has at least a casual interest in Yoga. You're not alone. A recent study from the Yoga Journal and Yoga Alliance found:
36.7 million people practiced Yoga in 2016 – up from 20.4 million in 2012. Another 80 million people say they are likely to try Yoga for the first time in the next twelve months.
A great statistic for those of us teaching Yoga to children…37% of practitioners have kids under 18 who also practice Yoga. This study doesn’t cite the number of students practicing in public and private schools but we know from our own experience that this number is skyrocketing. The need for teachers qualified to teach Yoga to children continues to grow. Yoga is a 16 billion (that’s with a B) dollar industry, up from $10B in 2012!
Another interesting statistic is that half of practitioners say they live green, eat sustainably and donate time to their community. Mainstream media doesn't really address these statistics leaving us feeling like maybe we're the only ones out there trying to make a difference. Rest assured when you choose to ride your bike instead of jump in the car, not buy yet another garment to add to an already stuffed closet or wait for local produce to come into season rather than buy something that has been shipped thousands of miles, you are in the company of millions of others who share your lifestyle, commitment and passion.
Here's to living a connected life!
