Why Family Yoga

Yoga in general is hugely popular - not only in the USA but throughout the world. In India there has recently been a fantastic increase in the number of people practicing Yoga, in part due to it’s popularity in the West. Today there are many current variations on this ancient practice. One of them is family Yoga. Traditionally, a student of Yoga went to live with his teacher’s family and became a part of the household. In this sense it is connected to the tradition. What it has evolved into today is a more playful way to practice and connect. Family Yoga is gaining popularity as parents discover this fun and healthy way to spend quality time with their kids.

More and more teachers, parents and other interested adults are sharing Yoga with children. Kids have a natural tendency to share what they are learning when they get home so this is an easy way to get the whole family involved. Children's Yoga teachers can further facilitate home practice by inviting parents in for a first and/or last class of a Yoga session. Family Yoga classes are another great way to help everyone feel an increased sense of well-being while learning a practice they can enjoy at home. With wide age ranges and levels of ability, they can be challenging to teach but also especially rewarding. Health begins at home. Family Yoga teaches simple routines, games and partner poses the whole family will love.
