GFY@Home

For years we've been getting requests for resources that people can work with at home. Yoga doesn't traditionally lend itself to the self-study approach so accommodating these requests has always been a challenge. At last we've been able to create something that will be a truly useful way for people to gain the knowledge they seek while staying true to the integrity of Yoga as we know it - GFY@Home.

What is Global Family Yoga @ Home (GFY@Home)?

GFY@Home is a mentored self-study program. You will be guided through the learning process with our comprehensive Study Guide and mentored along the way by GFY's Director of Training. Regularly scheduled group conference calls will provide an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the training material while giving you a chance to interact with other students in the program.

GFY@Home will provide you with many resources, ideas, techniques and tools that will enable you to share the benefits and joys of Yoga with children for years to come. It includes the cautions and considerations of working with developing minds and bodies, teaching techniques for all ages, how to plan a children's Yoga class, many ideas for games, tips for creating a cooperative classroom, and much more.

Specifically, the Study Guide contains:

  • An outline of what a children's Yoga teacher needs to know
  • A comprehensive section on child (and human) development through the 5 koshas
  • Guidance on how to make all 5 points of Yoga (exercise, breathing, relaxation, diet and meditation) engaging and appropriate for all ages
  • Special considerations for family Yoga
  • Tons of tips and advice for planning creative, dynamic and fun practices for children
  • Several complete lesson plans
  • Support in developing and deepening your own personal practice
  • Cautions and considerations, points to ponder and guided questions to help you assimilate the material
  • Lots of additional resources and further opportunities for study

A valuable resource included with your purchase of the GFY@Home program is one full year of personal mentoring with our Director of Training - Mira Binzen, E-RYT. Mentoring is primarily available through e-mail. You may also schedule a phone conference when you are ready to begin study - and again whenever Guided Questions and Practices are submitted. You will then be given feedback, both on your responses and on any other questions specifically regarding the Guide.

Another important facet of the GFY@Home program is your membership in the Global Family Yoga Ohana for one year free. You can continue your membership in the Ohana after the first 12 months at the regular price. The Ohana gives you access to many additional tools and resources for teaching Yoga to Children including monthly tele-learning opportunities, themed lesson plans, access to our members-only forum, discounts on trainings/workshops and more. All the details of membership can be found on our Ohana page.

It is important to note that the GFY@Home Study Guide is not an instruction manual for learning asanas (the physical postures of Yoga). That knowledge and skill requires in-person experience with a qualified Yoga teacher. Personal guidance is essential to gain direct experience and thus mastery of the asanas.

  • All questions and guided practices found in 6 chapters of the Practice section of the Study Guide.

  • Session reports from 10 Yoga classes you have planned and taught in the community.

What GFY@Home Students Have to Say

I have been steadily working through my home study guide and enjoying it immensely. Over the course of the year, Yoga became a very welcome and regular part of our day (1st - 3rd grade class)...I used many ideas from the guide that worked really well. Linda B. - New Mexico

Thanks again, Mira, for coordinating this conference call...What a blessing! Your words of wisdom are an inspiration to me and I'm happy to have been able to share the time we had. Ana A. - Texas

Thank you for the "just a little more awareness of breath, just a little greater sense of ease in the body and just a little better connection with family members is a HUGE success!"...it sure lightens the stress of trying to have a perfect class. Thanks again for your time. I am greatly grateful for your sharing which definitely helps me a lot in my teaching. Lay P. - Singapore
