Bio: I grew up in Chicago and have lived in New Mexico for the past twenty years. My husband Jeff and I have two children, ages 23 and 26. I have been a classroom teacher for the past twenty-five years, teaching children in grades 1-5 in Chicago, Philadelphia and New Mexico. I currently teach a class of first through third graders in a small private school in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I have been for the past seventeen years. I have devoted my life to working with children in many capacities in and out of the classroom. I have tutored privately, have spent many years teaching swimming and continue to direct a summer camp program for my school. I am also the yoga instructor for my school. Sharing the benefits of yoga with children and their families is a very important part of my work with children. I have been practicing yoga on and off for close to thirty years, first teaching myself from books. Over the last five years, I have developed a very dedicated practice both at home and in studio classes. While my yoga practice began primarily as a physical practice for strength and flexibility, my practice has deepened over the years to include a spiritual and meditative practice. My experience with breast cancer really paved the way for me to embrace not only the physical but also the spiritual healing that yoga can provide, as I continued to practice yoga and meditation throughout my treatment. As someone with congenital scoliosis, I have also experienced the ways in which yoga can be amazingly transformative, both in a physical sense and in the sense of developing a positive and compassionate connection to my body. My personal experience with yoga, combined with my work with children, has made me passionate about bringing the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of yoga to children and their families. I believe that the healing and empowering benefits of yoga can be an important part of bringing peace, healing and well-being to our world and especially to our youth, who are often bombarded by the daily stresses, expectations and hectic schedules of our society. Lest one think that I am always SO serious about life, I also have several fun hobbies and passions. I have been an avid runner for many years and have enjoyed training for a variety of distance events (OK, seems serious to some, FUN for me). I also love swimming and take every chance I can get to spend time in pools and by rivers and lakes. I also love to ride my bike, especially with my husband, and we love to traverse the roads of New Mexico on two wheels. Hiking and camping are a big part of my recreation, and I'm lucky to be able to enjoy this with my whole family when my grown kids are visiting. I am an animal-lover! We've had many dogs in our lives, as well as pygmy goats, zebra finches, fish and various reptiles, even my kids' pet rats! I love to go bird-watching too. And...I love to laugh and play - one of the reasons I love to work with children, who encourage me not to take myself too seriously!

Bio: Jen first learned about yoga when she was very young, and an unlikely teacher inspired a lifelong practice that literally saved Jen's life after being in a near fatal accident permanently injuring several disks in her neck and lower back. Rather than relying on invasive procedures, Jen chooses to find solace mentally and physically in her practice. It was this journey of pain and rehabilitation that inspired Jen to teach others. Jen received her RYT200 with Amy Beth Treciokas, a student of Pattabhi Jois, and continues to teach at the studio where she was trained. Jen's Vinyasa classes draw on her devotion to meditation, her Reiki training and her experience living with chronic pain; therefore, Jen understands that no two students have to look alike in an asana and offers conscious customized modifications to build her classes so that her students can experience their highest fulfillment. Teaching yoga has been transformative, not only for Jen, but for her two curious children who motivated Jen to learn to teach yoga to children and families. Currently Jen is registered to teach yoga to ages 4 -12 through Global Family Yoga and Yoga Alliance, and will complete her teen certification for the full RCYT designation in the fall of 2013. Learning yoga as a small child herself, Jen feels honored to guide kids and families toward the abundant rewards of a practice they can call their own. As a mom, Jen loves when kids discover a newfound sense of calm, compassion, challenge and confidence within the context of an entertaining yoga class.

Bio: Jennifer Vondracek is the Executive Director of yogaG, a Quad Cities-based nonprofit that brings trauma sensitive yoga and trauma informed care to women and children impacted by domestic violence. Jennifer's undergraduate and graduate studies were in the University of Wisconsin system in the field of Women's Studies, with an emphasis on political science, ethic of care, health sciences, motherhood, and the ascription of culture on the female body. Jennifer began practicing yoga in 2007 when she committed herself to losing 50 pounds and competing in her first triathlon. Looking to avoid injury while quieting her mind, she was hooked and continued practicing yoga throughout her third pregnancy in 2009. Yoga naturally weaved its way into her family and her graduate studies after eleven years in business development and hospitality, so Jennifer began training with Global Family Yoga in 2010. Her training with Global Family Yoga has prepared her to work exclusively with children, teens, and families, with additional training in yoga nidra and therapeutic yoga. In 2011 Jennifer helped found omTown yogis, a Milwaukee-based non-profit that mobilizes the collective resources of yoga instructors to match their intentions of elevating the level of service and consciousness in their communities. She holds a permanent advisory board position with omTown yogis, while also developing their brand through writing and content-development. Additional training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga with David Emerson and the Justice Resource Institute makes her style and philosophy both accessible and beneficial for people of all ages and abilities. At this time Jennifer is deeply involved in research around best practices in yoga service to traumatized and disadvantaged populations, and advocates for private funding to causes that implement evidence-based practices in yoga. Jennifer is personally committed to yoga, service, education, and her family.
